A thank you to the staff at The Woodpile for all your help today; I’ve bought some great timber and now excited, as I will be creating my first piece of furniture in over 12 years. Illness is a bitch and it takes years from you, let’s see if I can take a little back; this small unassuming deed for me is such a leap of faith.
Making progress on a pine coffee table. Today I have been concentrating on chopping mortises for haunced tenons.
Will post pics as I progress warts an all, I was going to do a running blog on this project, but ill add stuff when i feel more with it.
Been really struggling this week but a few hours each day and this project is starting to come together. Only dry fix and shaping still to do but its coming together.
Started to shape the legs: Conscious of the effort ive already put into each leg so far it plays on my mind as I carefully chisel away chunks. Happy feet lol. Need to tweak the rails not quite there yet.
Bottom shelf now coming together and my final mortises in this build. Table top to edge and glue up next then whilst that cures I can take this shelf apart and plane down flush and prep for finish.
Managed to get round to jointing and glueing up the table top this afternoon. Table top came out of the cramps today glued up well very pleased with it. I’ve almost finished planed it down flush and getting read for cabinet scrapers and a coat of shellac sealer.
Turn buttons all cut out ready and mortised the location holes around the rails. The main glue up now ready to happen just waiting on a couple of larger cramps to arrive; the point of no return and the culmination of my hard work, which will leave just the final sand and finish.
Will post some more pics soon.
Gluing up last stretch now, next project prepping in the back ground a couple of clock I think. Coffee table tomorrow will be light sand and finish applied. Then the final coat of poly and Im done.
Tidying up the workshop and making ready for the next project. Still excited from the satisfaction of completing a piece of furniture and motivated by the encouragement of friends and followers on here. Thank you for installing a positive mood for dreaming designs for a new creation yet to come.
